When you get a new phone, there are a few things you should do straight away that will make your phone feel more like your phone and may save you some embarrassment – like number 2 in the list – set your ring tone so you know it’s your phone ringing!
Tidy Your App Drawer
The Xperia Z3 gives you the ability to make your app drawer more tidy which in turn makes your apps more accessible. Sometimes, apps can get lost in the app drawer but with the ability to re-order and create folders, you’ll have your apps where you need them.
Disable Sound When Docking Phone
The Xperia Z3 makes a sound to let you know it has successfully connected when you place it on its charging dock.
If you’re like me, you set your phone to charge just before you go to sleep. If there’s someone already asleep in the same room, it can get troublesome and you may want to disable the dock-charger connected sound.
Note: There’s no on/off button for this sound so this is a kind of workaround.
Add Flashlight To Lock Screen
A phone flashlight or torch is when a cellphone shines a small LED light (usually the camera flash) or uses the screen at its brightest setting to provide light to see by.
This is a super handy function that you probably don’t need often but when you do, it’s nice to have it right there (and not hidden away, obscurely named in your app drawer).
Note: For this customisation, you will need to download the free Simple LED Widget or the donate version.
Stop Apps Notifying
Sometimes apps can get a bit annoying with their reminders that pop up in the notification bar, some games especially. Luckily there is a way to stop apps from notifying built into the Xperia Z3.
(Note that many apps also have internal settings that allow you to turn off notifications.)
Create a Custom Alarm
My previous phone had a really great, somewhat soothing ocean sounds (waves crashing) audio file for the alarm that I really enjoyed waking up to. Moving to my new Xperia Z3 I was sad to find there was nothing similar. But, you can create a custom alarm with any sound file on your phone so problem solved!
Double Tap Screen On
The Sony Xperia Z3 is a super slim phone, so sometimes when you have it lying on the table, it can be hard to reach the power button on the side. Thankfully, there is another way to wake up your phone – with a double tap to the screen.
You can enable double tap on simply by changing these settings.
Change the Lock Screen Security Feature
The lock screen is a feature on the modern-day smart phone that adds a layer of security between a potential user and the contents of the phone. The level of security depends on the setting and is usually negatively correlated to the ease of use – the easier it is to use, the less secure. But you can change it depending on your needs.
Change the Lock Screen Background Image
On the Sony Xperia Z3, the lock screen is what you see when you first turn on the phone’s screen. It adds a level of security which you can set depending on how secure you want your phone, or you can turn it off completely and turning on your phone will skip past the lock screen straight into the phone.
Anyway, here’s how to change it.
Change the Home Screen Background Image
The home screen background image or wallpaper can change the feeling you get from looking at your smart phone screen and make it feel like it’s really yours. Here’s a couple of ways to change your Xperia Z3’s home screen.
